Doug DuChateau - Class A PGA Director of Instruction
Doug DuChateau's involvement in golf spans five decades. Developing as a young competitive player in the Eugene area, Doug became a standout for the University of Oregon, twice being named to the all PAC 10 team alongside contemporaries such as Phil Mickelson, Jim Furyk and Casey Martin. As a self-taught competitive player, Doug amassed 2 State Titles (1991 & 1993 OGA Stroke Play), a Collegiate Victory (1991 Western Intercollegiate), and a Regional Title (1992 Pacific NW Player's Championship) as an amateur.
Doug turned professional in 1993 and after winning his first event out, proceeded to win on various mini-tours 16 times over the next 4 years. While the highlights included qualifying for the 1994 U.S. Open and over $100,000 in career earnings, the advancement to the highest level was not in the cards. His love for the game and desire to bring it to as many people as possible has lead him to the instructional profession. As a professional he has completed PGA training as well as becoming a Master level Golfing Machine instructor, a system used by dozens of top 100 instructors.
Since arriving as director of instruction in April of 2007, the success Doug has had with his students has continued to be outstanding. He has been awarded 2012 PGA Teacher of the Year by his professional peers. With competitive players, Doug has worked with District and State champions, Regional champions, as well as prominent professionals and college players.
With Junior Players, Doug's students have been awarded All-State Honors 24 times, won 6 OSAA State High School Championships and more than a dozen District Titles. These talented and dedicated young individuals have qualified for multiple USGA Junior Championships, been nominated to numerous Regional and National All-Star Teams, and won a number of OGA Statewide Junior Championships including the Oregon State Junior Championship and the Oregon State Junior Stroke Play Championship. Many of these players have earned collegiate scholarships and gone on to excel at the Collegiate level.
With adult competitors, the successes have continued to be truly outstanding. These exceptional athletes have qualified for 8 USGA National Championships, including 2 United States Opens, 4 USGA Amateur Championships and 2 USGA Public Links Championships. Numerous collegiate victories have been accomplished along with NCAA All-American Honors, NCAA Regional and Conference Player-of-the-Year Awards and more than a dozen OGA Statewide Titles.
It may seem as if Doug's dedication is solely geared toward competitive players, but nothing could be further from reality. The passion and dedication that he directs toward the average recreational player are the centerpiece of his daily endeavors. Involvement in adult new golfer programs that inform, invite and most importantly encourage developing players are among the most rewarding day-to-day experiences, and ones that truly bring him joy and fulfillment. Just as each student is a unique individual, the content and focus of every session, every day is where the depth of his knowledge and experience are geared. The ongoing relationship he has fostered with The Golfing Machine and it's individualized, variation-based material is the foundation of the "Student-Centered Approach" he espouses. In Doug you will find a dedicated, sincere professional who seeks only to foster your improvement based on "Your Game - Your Way". All of this at the highest degree of value of time and money anywhere on the region.
